With everything that has gone on in the NFL in the past few days, it is easy to forget some of the things that have happened. The disrespect, however, is evident. The fans that were once so loyal to the team are getting fed up with this disrespect and have shown their displeasure. But one NFL team is changing everything by asking their fans to join in on the protests.
The kneeling has got to stop. At least that is what people all over the country have been saying. The NFL is losing lots of money by continuing to let this kind of behavior happen. Are they clueless or do they just not care? A little bit of both probably. But they might want to start caring given the fact that they will be a broken league if the protests do not stop.
The Green Bay Packers were once beloved by their fans. But they have just done the unthinkable. They are asking their fans to join in on their protests. They want the fans to lock arms during the national anthem in order to “unify” us. That seems like a stretch and many will not agree.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers explained his reasoning. “This is about equality,” Rodgers said on Tuesday. “This is about unity and love and growing together as a society and starting a conversation around something that may be a little bit uncomfortable for people.”
“We’ve got to come together and talk about these things and grow as a community, as a connected group of individuals in our society. We’re going to continue to show love and unity, and this week we’re going to ask the fans to join in as well and come together and show people that we can be connected and we can grow together.”
But if they want to get a certain message across, they need to do it some other time. The national anthem is never a time to do something like this. It is a time for remembrance and nothing else. The people who fought for the flag would agree.
